The rhetoric was seen by many as an escalation of previous rhetoric used by Trump and triggered a reaction from many news outlets.

Incredibly, war was almost declared on Twitter. While many view Trump's tweets as limited in value, the North Korean government took this one very seriously. North Korea's foreign minister, Ri Yong Ho, called them a 'declration of war'. The White House responded quickly to suggest the tweet was in fact not an act of war.
